MinIO repository archived – what’s Plane’s plan for object storage?

The MinIO GitHub repository was archived on February 13, 2026 and is now read-only. MinIO is a core dependency in self-hosted Plane deployments for object storage.

Just curious as to Plane’s plan around MinIO no longer being maintained, whether you’re planning to pin a version to stick to for now, pivot to an alternative, or something else.

For what it’s worth, I migrated my local MinIO instance (not used for my Plane storage currently but for other projects) to a Garage instance. The migration was easy with mc, and it has been working well so far.

Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

Good question. For production deployments, we recommend using external S3-compatible object storage. Plane has out-of-the-box support for this, so that’s the best path forward for now.
We’re evaluating replacements for the bundled MinIO and will share updates on our docs and changelog once we’ve decided on a direction. Thanks for the heads up on Garage - we’ll take a look.

Sounds good, I’ll bump up the priority for my TODO of migrating my company’s Plane instance to use our Garage instance.

I’m curious to hear what you decide on. I’ll keep an eye on the changelog.

As always, thanks for the responsiveness & continued work to improve your platform.
