📣 New seat minimums on self-hosted Commercial and Air-gapped, starting April 24

Starting April 24, 2026, new purchases of self-hosted Commercial (Pro and Business) will have a 10-seat minimum, and new purchases of Air-gapped will have a 100-seat minimum. Community Edition stays exactly where it is, completely free with no seat limits. Every existing customer keeps their current terms, indefinitely.

Why we’re doing this

We want each self-hosted tier to match the teams it’s actually built for.

  • Community Edition already covers self-hosters who want to run Plane on their own. It is free, AGPL-3.0, unlimited seats, and already powering hundreds of thousands of installs. If you want fully self-hosted Plane without a commercial relationship, nothing about that changes.

  • Cloud is the right place to start if you’re evaluating self-hosted. You get the full product with zero setup, and setting up a self-hosted Commercial instance later is simple once you’re ready. Test on Cloud, switch to self-hosted when it makes sense.

  • Commercial and Air-gapped are built for depth. Premium support, SLAs, air-gapped licensing, the operational surface around regulated and large deployments. The updated minimums ensure we maintain the level of support these deployments require.

What’s changing on April 24

Tier New minimum (new purchases only) Change for existing customers
Community Edition None. Free and unlimited, as always. None
Commercial (Pro / Business), self-hosted 10 seats None. Current terms continue indefinitely.
Air-gapped 100 seats None. Current terms continue indefinitely.
Cloud (all plans) None None

If you want to run self-hosted and you’re under the new minimums

You have good options.

  • Community Edition. Free, open source, no seat limits. Everything you need to run Plane yourself is in the repo.

  • Cloud. Start on any plan, grow with us, move to self-hosted Commercial when you cross the threshold.

  • Already a self-hosted Commercial or Air-gapped customer under the new numbers. Nothing changes for you. Your terms continue on your current plan for as long as you stay on it.

If you are evaluating Plane Commercial and have less than 10 seats, you can still buy licenses untill April 24, 2026

A note on Airgapped Plane

Air-gapped is built for regulated and offline deployments: offline install bundles, Prime licensing, disconnected environments, and the compliance work around all of that. The 100-seat minimum reflects where most air-gapped teams sit.
Below 100 seats and in a strict or regulated setup? Write to sales@plane.so. We qualify case by case.

But the ability to use Plane with up to 12 users free in either self-deployed or cloud will stay?

Yes. No change there at all.

Quick update from our side: we’re currently making a few changes across the platform, so this particular update has been delayed slightly.

We now expect these changes to go live tentatively by the end of this week or early next week. Thanks for your patience—we’ll keep you posted as things roll out.
