Plane Commercial v3.0.0 is out. This is our biggest self-hosted release so far, and it touches every layer of the product: how work is structured, how access is managed, how workflows run, how progress is reported, and how Plane AI works inside your instance.
Plane Desktop now for self-hosted instances
Plane now runs as a native desktop app for commercial self-hosted instances on macOS and Linux. Connect it directly to your instance.

Workspace governance
Work item types, automations, and type hierarchies can now be defined once at the workspace level and reused across projects. Epics also now behave like regular work items, with custom properties, layouts, filters, and relations. Existing epics, comments, updates, and initiative scope carry over on upgrade.

Permissions and access
RBAC is now the default access model in every workspace. Enterprise Grid customers get Granular Access Control for building custom roles from permission schemes. OIDC, SAML, and LDAP are supported, and IdP group sync can manage users, roles, and project memberships from your identity system.

Workflows and automations
Different work item types can follow different workflows inside the same project. Automations can run on a schedule, send webhooks to external endpoints, and you can now run parallel cycles within a single project.

Dashboards and reporting
Private dashboards, shared dashboards, and shared collections. Widget filters support PQL, and dashboards can be exported as PDFs or published to a public URL.

Plane AI

Before upgrading to Plane v3.0.0, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Allow additional time for the upgrade
v3.0.0 runs database migrations as part of the installation, so the process will take longer than a standard release. Set aside some extra time to let it finish.Back up your instance before upgrading
Rolling back to an earlier version is not supported after upgrading to v3.0.0. Create a full backup of your instance before starting and store it somewhere you can restore from if needed.Work item type hierarchy is a one-way setting
This feature is available on Enterprise Grid. Once you turn it on, it stays on and cannot be disabled, so configure and enable it only when your teams are ready to follow the defined parent-child rules.
